In a significant boost for content creators and digital media professionals in Edo State, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has announced plans to establish a digital hub in Benin City.
The initiative, a collaboration between NBC and the Edo State Government through the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), according to the commission, aims to enhance broadcasting services, content development, and skit production in the state.
The announcement was made by the Director-General of NBC, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, during a courtesy visit to Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo welcomed the partnership, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for the initiative’s success.
He acknowledged the NBC’s recognition of the state’s progress in recent months and assured the Commission of the government’s full support.
“I want to welcome you to Edo State, and you have started well by choosing to partner with us. Edo is a land rich in history and culture, and this collaboration will further showcase the creative potential of our people,” the governor stated.
Mr. Ebuebu highlighted the NBC’s goal of improving digital broadcasting and empowering young content creators. He noted that Edo State was the first in the country to receive this partnership, underscoring its strategic importance.
“We recognize the abundance of creative talent among Edo youths, but they often lack platforms to showcase their work. Through this partnership with EBS, we will create a space where they can develop, distribute, and monetize their content both locally and internationally,” Ebuebu said.
EBS Managing Director, Sulaiman Aledeh, also lauded the collaboration, attributing it to the visionary leadership of Governor Okpebholo.
He pointed out the recent revival of the EBS station in Ihievbe, Edo North, which according to him, had been non-operational for over a decade.
“In less than 100 days, Governor Okpebholo has reactivated the Ihievbe station, setting a foundation for language preservation and diverse content creation.
We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring to our content creators, skit makers, and the broader media industry in Edo State,” Aledeh remarked.
With this collaboration, Edo State, as gathered by WorldClass247Mews, is positioning itself as a hub for digital broadcasting and creative content, opening new opportunities for media professionals and young talents across the region.
