Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged 100 postgraduate students awarded state scholarships to pursue their studies in Turkey to uphold discipline and represent the state with dignity.
The governor’s message, delivered by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, came during a pre-departure orientation held on Monday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola.
Fintiri reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through sustained investment in human capital development. He advised the beneficiaries to stay focused on their academic pursuits and avoid actions that could undermine their future.
“You should always remember why you are in Turkey and focus on your studies. You are expected to be good ambassadors of the state and your families at all times,” he said.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, said the beneficiaries—selected from all 21 local government areas under the “Fintiri Win Project”—were chosen on merit from over 5,000 applicants. He noted that the programme covers Engineering, ICT, Architecture, and Medical Sciences.
Pella encouraged the students to obey regulations and seize the opportunity to improve their lives and contribute to the state’s development.
Executive Director of the Adamawa State Scholarship Trust Fund, Dr. Joshua Kwanamu, described the event as a significant milestone in the state’s educational advancement. He commended Governor Fintiri for his strategic efforts in raising the standard of education and fostering purposeful leadership.
Speaking on behalf of parents, Mallam Salihu Sabana applauded the governor’s people-centred policies and his commitment to transforming the education sector. He assured the government of families’ continued support for the students.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Trust Joseph expressed gratitude to the state government, calling the scholarship a rare privilege and a demonstration of confidence in the potential of the youth. He noted that investment in young people equates to investment in the future of Adamawa State.
