The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in separate operations against human trafficking and kidnapping, leading to the rescue of victims, arrest of suspects, and recovery of firearms.
In Enugu State, police operatives on July 30, 2025, intercepted 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway while he was transporting two young women — 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley allegedly for trafficking to Ghana.
Investigations revealed that the victims, lured from Ogoja in Cross River State under the guise of job offers, were to be taken to work in a restaurant owned by the suspect’s partner in Ghana without their parents’ consent.
Authorities say Wonna also attempted to sexually assault the victims while they were lodged in a hotel. The prompt police intervention ensured the victims’ safe return to their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicate.
In a separate operation in Taraba State on August 13, 2025, police officers, in collaboration with local security outfits, raided Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar.
The duo, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, reportedly confessed to being part of a gang responsible for multiple kidnappings in Plateau and Taraba States.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the operatives for their swift action and assured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks. He directed that thorough investigations be carried out to ensure all culprits face prosecution.
The Force called on citizens to remain vigilant and continue providing actionable intelligence to security agencies to aid in the fight against crime.
