The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, a special forces unit, to Plateau State to tackle a recent rise in terrorist attacks.
The troops, already on the ground, are expected to intensify operations and decisively confront insurgents and criminal elements across the state.
Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, received the intervention battalion at the Headquarters of 3 Division. He was represented by Brigadier General Senlong Sule, Chief of Staff of Operation ENDURING PEACE.
In a statement issued following the reception, Major General Oyinlola urged the troops to conduct “decisive and ruthless” offensive operations against terrorists, commending the COAS for providing the necessary combat support and logistical resources.
He also appealed to residents of Plateau State not to panic if they observe increased troop movements and the deployment of heavy military equipment. The commander thanked citizens for their continued support and urged them to provide timely and actionable intelligence to aid military operations and restore peace in the region.
The Joint Task Force emphasized that the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in Plateau State.
